Embark upon an exciting journey of love and spiritual growth as you allow the Holy Spirit to reveal truth through the Word of God.

Jeremiah 29:13 set in the clouds against beams of light

Jeremiah 29:13 - And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

John 1:1 says, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. This Bible verse tells us that God and His Word are One.

As a result, we cannot know God apart from His Word. It is, therefore, an amazing privilege to embrace our Bibles every day and allow the Holy Spirit to teach us more about the love of Jesus and our loving Father, God.

The Bible is the best book ever written! It feeds and sustains our spirits just as our natural food feeds and sustains our natural bodies. It reveals who God is, what He desires, and what pleases Him.

It also answers our questions and helps us realize how much God loves us!

The Bible teaches us everything we need to know: how to live as singles and how to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit regarding who to marry and who not to marry. It also teaches us how to be good wives and husbands, raise our children, succeed in business, work and steward our money, choose our friends, show love to others, and walk in freedom—the list goes on and on!

The Bible contains so many amazing stories—stories we'll want to read over and over again. It includes giants and villains, angels, and prophecies that we get to see come to pass now, in our lifetime!

If you like war stories, some of the best ones are in the Bible!

Love and romance are all in the Bible!

And the most amazing thing is that the Words of the Bible are spirit and life! Jesus told us so in John 6:63.

John 6:63

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

But what does that really mean? I explain further in the following section.

The Logos and Rhema of the Word

In the next four Bible verses, notice the following highlighted words: Word, preaching, sayings, and word.

A globe set on space

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

The hands of people in a group with a Bible and a guitar

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Each of these words—Word, sayings, preaching, and word—is a translation of the Greek word logos, which depicts speech, what someone has said, and the sayings of God.

We know that the Holy Spirit used men of God to record those sayings in a book, which is our Bible. We live by those Words.

When we need it, the Holy Spirit will utter those written Words to our spirits, and they become active and alive! They become rhema, which is the Greek word that depicts that which is spoken by the living voice.

Our Bibles teach us that the Words uttered by the Holy Spirit to our hearts become the swords we use to fight against the enemy, as seen in Ephesians 6:17.

Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The word "word" in Ephesians 6:17 is not translated from the word logos, but from the Greek Word rhema.

Have you ever read or heard a Bible verse that just seemed to leap off the page, even if you've read or heard it 100 times before? That's rhema! The Word has become alive to you!

The Holy Spirit reveals the TRUTH of that Word to us, and He does this to free us in whatever situation we're in!

John 8:32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

How are we made free by a rhema word?

When the Holy Spirit gives us a rhema Word, it becomes a sword in our mouths to speak against the opposing forces of the enemy. That living Word spoken to our spirits by the Holy Spirit AND spoken in faith by us to the enemy wins our victory every time!

The devil is no match for the living Word of God!

Rhema is so powerful! It is the rhema Word that we received when we gave our lives to the Lord, as seen in Romans 10:8-10.

Romans 10:8-10 scriptures against the heavens

Romans 10:8-10

[8] But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

[9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

[10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

When we heard and received the Gospel message, that truth became a rhema word that delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of God's dear Son (Colossians 1:13).

Both logos and rhema are vitally important to our walk with the Lord. We feed our human spirits by reading and studying our Bibles, the logos Word of God. It's how we grow spiritually.

An open Bible lying in greenery with live plants growing from within

1 Peter 2:2

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.

I am so grateful that the Holy Spirit comes alongside us to enlighten that Word, making it alive, powerful, and anointed in us! And we know from Isaiah 10:27 that the anointing destroys bondages in our lives!

A woman with upstretched arms in a field of flowers

Isaiah 10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

God loves us dearly. He wants us to know Him intimately. He really wants to be our best friend. He wants us to be close enough to Him to hear Him speak to our hearts as He ministers help to us in times of need.

Too often, I have missed God's leading because I allowed myself to default to the human mindset of natural thinking. As a result, I missed His attempts to help me. Why?

Natural thinking is noisy. It's the realm in which the enemy functions and the enemy always works to distract us from pursuing and developing intimacy with God.

When we live in a state of natural thinking, we may love God but are unaware of God's presence with us. Why?

It is because God is not at all natural. Natural is the human default position of fallen man. Even after we are born again, we default to natural thinking if we do not renew our minds with the Word of God.

Romans 12:1-2

[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

In the realm of natural thinking, the devil can keep us frustrated, worried, tired, sick, fearful, and defeated. That's why Paul warns against it in Romans 8:6.

An open Bible being held up toward the sky by a single hand

Romans 8:6

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Simply stated, "carnally minded" means natural thinking, and "death" means separation from God. That's why I could not hear the leading of the Holy Spirit when He tried to help me.

I was too distracted. Natural thinking separated me from being able to sense God's presence to help me.

But the enemy cannot win against us when the Word of God has first place in our lives! When the Word of God is first in our lives, we give the Holy Spirit freedom to make the Word come alive in our hearts.

The Word of God was just words when I treated my Bible as a casual interruption to my daily activities and responsibilities. I was not close enough to God to hear the Holy Spirit's repeated attempts to bring me to freedom.

I had to make the choice to give the Word its proper place in my life. It has indeed been the best decision I've ever made since salvation. There are just so many benefits to feeding on the Word of God.

Psalm 103:1-5 scriptures set against the heavens

Psalm 103:1-5

[1] Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

[2] Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

[3] Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

[4] Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

[5] Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

It's been a blessing to embrace and live by Bible verses about knowing God, loving Him, and loving others. Getting to know God is by far the most amazing journey anyone can embark upon!

And the more we learn about the Lord, the more we desire to know even more about Him! I didn't know what I was missing out on until I made the decision to know more.

A sword atop a Bible

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

[33] But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

[34] And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

When we make the life-changing decision to know God through His Word, we'll come to understand what it truly means to be more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37)!
