1 - 2 Corinthians 2:14

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

When your Father is the creator of the universe, and His love for His children is immeasurable, He makes an unceasing flow of encouragement, victory, peace, and joy available to each of us.

Victory is ours EVERY TIME when we learn how to tap into that flow!

Go with me on a victory walk through scripture that includes Bible verses of triumph as I share a real life-changing example from my own experiences. It starts in Ephesians 6:10-11 and continues from there.

Foundational Victory Scriptures

Ephesians 6:10-18

[10] Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

[11] Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

[12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

[13] Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able

to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

[14] Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

[15] And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

[16] Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

[17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

[18] Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

Paul spent a lot of time describing the armor of God.  But why? Why IS it so important to put on the whole armor of God?

Peter tells us why in 1 Peter 5:8-9. It's because we have a real enemy.

1 Peter 5:8-9

[8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

[9] Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

The New Testament is written in Greek. The Greek word translated “adversary” in this victory scripture verse describes an opponent in a lawsuit who will do everything possible to defeat you.  And THIS adversary, whom Peter identifies in 1 Peter 5:8-9 as the devil, wants to take us out.

Jesus breaks it down for us in John 10:10.

Sunrays shining through a tree

4

John 10:10

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

That’s the ONLY reason the enemy comes.  He’s not coming to be friendly. He’s not coming to play games, although he tries to make us think this is all a game.  But Jesus clearly told us that it is not a game.  Jesus let us know that our adversary, the devil, doesn’t come at all unless it’s to steal, kill, and destroy.

Then Jesus said in the second half of John 10:10, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." And He went on to defeat the devil for us.

When the scripture says in Ephesians 6:12, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood," this lets us know that our enemy is not our spouse, co-worker, or family member. Though a spouse, co-worker, and maybe even a family member may sometimes give us much grief, he or she is not our real enemy.

When we misidentify who the real enemy is, we fight natural battles—we end up fighting each other.  Those are the kind of battles the devil wants us to fight. But when you fight natural battles, even if you win, at what price did you gain that victory?

Did you lose a friendship? Fighting natural battles with our tongues and negative actions can cause us to lose our relationship with a family member, a co-worker, or a brother or sister in the church.  For me, it almost cost me my marriage.  No, natural battles are not what is being referred to here.

When Paul says in Ephesians 6:12, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places," he’s talking about demons and devils. But wait!  Don't worry!  We win . . . always!

Embrace Victory Scriptures and Always Win!

Even though Ephesians 6:12 references demons and devils, we must understand in what respect we war against them.  Let’s look at Colossians 2:15, another powerful victory scripture verse!

A cross against a sunlit sky

5

Colossians 2:15

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

The Greek word translated as “spoiled” means “disarmed.”  Jesus disarmed Satan and all of his cohorts and rendered them powerless against us.

You ask, “How can Satan be powerless against me when I have all KINDS of problems going on in my life.”

It reminds me of a story about a man who went looking for his goat, who had gone missing. He found the goat lying in a ditch where someone had tied his legs together and left him there alone.

The man cut the goat's legs free and urged the goat to stand and climb out of the ditch. The goat just lay there and didn't move. It was not until the man stood the goat up on its legs and spread them apart that the goat, realizing it had been set free, ran out of the ditch.

In many respects, our thinking is the same way!

Take a look at Colossians 1:13.

Colossians 1:13

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.

The enemy does everything he can to KEEP us from knowing we’ve been set free.  He will lie to our minds and make us “feel” that nothing has changed—that we are still tied up.

But God has indeed set us free from the power of darkness, and He didn’t stop there!  Here is another of my favorite scriptures about the victory Jesus made possible for us!

man holding a large cross above his head

7

Luke 10:19

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

In this Bible verse, the first word translated as “power” is exousia, the Greek word meaning authority.

The second word translated as “power” in this verse is the Greek word dunamis, which means ability, abundance, and strength.

This scripture verse tells us that through Jesus Christ, God has given us AUTHORITY over ALL the devil’s ability, abundance, and strength.  That means that even Satan's BEST shot against us has been defeated!

"Well," you might ask, "Why does it feel like I’m losing?"

It's because we don’t know we’ve been set free!  We are still confined to our natural way of thinking.

"How do I change the way I think?"

The Holy Spirit answered that question for us through Paul in Romans 12:1-2.

Romans 12:1-2

[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

These instructions are left on record by the Holy Spirit to show us how to be transformed from our natural way of thinking and think like God! It's accomplished by renewing our minds.

How is the mind renewed?  THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD!

What does it mean to "renew the mind?" LEARN WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT YOU IN THE WORD, AND BELIEVE IT!

How often should we renew our minds?  EVERY DAY!

A Victory Testimony of My Own

Listen, I’ve been duped many times.  The devil has gotten the upper hand on me many times.  But God is faithful to His promises! Here's the experience I promised to share.

One of my favorite scriptures in the whole Bible is Isaiah 41:10.

Large hand reaching down to smaller hand

9

Isaiah 41:10

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

I remember one day, walking through my house, a very familiar feeling coming over me. It was a feeling I was used to. I’d felt it many times throughout my adulthood, and experiencing this feeling had become just a way of life.

But when I felt it this time, I had made the choice to renew my mind with the Word daily. As a result, when this feeling came over me, I didn’t just roll with it as I'd done in the past; I tried to figure out why I felt this way.

Normally, when I felt this way, the enemy would tell me that God was mad at me.  He would make me feel that I'm not good enough.  God doesn’t love me.  I’ll never be as good as this one or that one.  The enemy would say, "You’re a failure.  You haven’t attained your goals.  Your life will never be pleasing to God."

But this time, because I was renewing my mind with the Word and the promises God has given to His children, I knew a little bit about what GOD says about me, which didn’t match what I was feeling. This allowed me to question, “If what God says about me is true, why am I feeling this way?  What even is this very familiar feeling?”

And just as clearly, in my spirit, I heard the word, “dismay.”  I thought, “Dismay?”  I remembered that the word “dismay” is in Isaiah 41:10. After reading the verse in my Bible, I looked up the meaning of the word on my phone and found that a synonym of "dismay" is “discouragement.”

The light came on! For all the years this feeling had come over me, I didn’t know it was discouragement that I was dealing with.

I’d been defeated so many times by discouragement

But now I knew it was one of Satan’s strategies against me, and I knew God had already let me know in Isaiah 41:10 that He’s my God and I don’t have to be discouraged.  The truth came and I realized, “God’s not mad at me.  I’m not in trouble with God.  He loves me!  He’s got me!  God’s got me!”

That truth set me free!

John 8:32 became a reality for me!

10

John 8:32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

I can honestly say that the spirit of discouragement has not harrassed me since that day!  Why? It is because the Word revealed truth to me that set me free!

By taking the helmet of salvation, I understood God's heart and purpose for me in this situation. Victory is mine! I walk in victory!

As I continue in His Word, He continues to unveil truths that liberate me in needed areas of my life. And God will do the same for you!

Through His abundant love, God has provided Bible verses that address every single need we may ever have in this life!
